Hi guys,

I used to use Tweetdeck on the iPhone (still do on the computer) but I switched to the official Twitter app when it came out and I find it much better. The tweet history goes very far back whereas Tweetdeck only shows the previous hundred or so tweets (you might think that's a lot but if you follow a lot of people or are searching for a tweet from over a day ago it comes into it's own!) Also, the Twitter app shows thumbnails of pictures which is a nice touch.

On Niall's recommendation I updated to EirText Pro, but I was disappointed to find that in fact it only shows replies other EirText Pro users. However, there are other features which make the upgrade worthwhile such as multiple accounts and text signatures (much like email signatures).

Another of my favourite apps (and Dusty will like this one) is FStream. It lets you stream radio stations which don't have their own apps. All you have to do is enter the stream URL and station name and press play. You can also copy and paste the URLs on a computer and add them via a web browser as long as both the computer and the iPhone/Pod/Pad are on the same wifi network.

What's interesting about the Amsterdam office isn't so much the technology, which exists in the wild already, but the mindset behind how it is used.
At an organisational level employees have the choice of interacting in different ways to achieve different goals.
If you need a space to collaborate and exchange ideas you don't need a boardroom. If you have a client coming over you can meet them on a sofa instead of across a table.
This combination of a flexible management style aided by industrial design is what is driving the Dutch model, and sets is apart from the current 'road warrior' model.

Interesting piece on the deskless office but you don't have to go to Amsterdam to experience it. At Workspace Anywhere, Microsoft Office, Exchange e-mail, Windows, Citrix & and data storage are available from any computer, iPhone or thin client you nominate just by clicking on a browser. As reported on the podcast good for working on the move, from home, a trade show, hotel or anywhere you are in the world where you can access the internet. www.workspaceanywhere.com

This is exactly the point I made on my digital radio blog ... what's in it for the operator of commercial DTT?

Using combined free DTT from RTE for the main Irish channels and the cheap Freesat satellite option why would anyone in their right mind want to pay for DTT?

Perhaps the answer lies in the Freeview business model in the UK. Anyone know how that works?

What's the commercial arguement for DTT?
The major urban areas have cable so they don't need it. People outside of that have the Sky option if they want premium content otherwise they can get free multi channel from a cheap free-to-air satellite kit and a small rooftop aerial (A Nordig 2.0 box is expensive too!). The people that are left over when you exclude the ones above won't amount to many and they have, by their inaction, indicated that a lot of them are not that interested anyway.
I can understand the technical advantages but can't see how anyone could make it pay.

Surely its time to look at setting-up a system which will cable channels into every home in the land. So, ask yourself what cable enters every home in the land.....ESB!! It also has fibre backhaul and already uses the system internally, whereby data is carried on the power lines.

In your pod cast of today you be-maoned the death-before-birth of Digital Terrestrial TV in this country (other than that which RTE is leaglly obliged to provide). You then mentioned that there's DTT in Sweden. What you did not mention was that in Sweden, the service is heavily subsdised by the State in order to keep it running. Countries, bigger and richer than Ireland have pulled out of commercial DTT over the years - even the country we compare ourselves against most - the UK - has done so.

Yes, we must go digital. But let's keep a bit of balance in the argument. Let's not kill ourselves with shame. We are not alone!!

Best wishes
